Posion - Rita Ora Lyric Analysis

 

 

This lyric analysis illustrates my brief ideas and intake of how the song resembles certain aspects of addiction and negative influence from friends and "Toxic relationships". Which led me to conjure up the relation to alcoholism and the addiction from it that related to the artist's past events and raising awareness of how people can overcome it. This being said relates to the target audience and their interests within parties and festival atmosphere's and how to be careful whilst drinking and acts as a warning to them.

During the photography with help from a friend I was able to create  a behind the scenes video illustrating use of location and the process of organising shots and mise en scene and the use of lighting.

I decided to incorporate outdoor and indoor locations to represent her image as "revealing" into her life as well as the audience being able to see more depth into her past. To represent this I wanted to use on of the studio photos as the cover and back cover to represent her persona that the public already know and then have the outdoor ivy locations to represent her inner self. I also wanted to incorporate Ivy leaves to correlate with the synergy and identity of her name.

When editing my photos I used Canon editing software as well as Photoshop to illuminate edges of definition. I found using the software useful in creating a more stylish and mysterious image of the artist reflecting her true persona or at least a past experience.

Ivy Taylor:

 

 Ivy is in her early 20's and has recently released a statement to the public about her past alcoholism and more into her family. She is a fairly new artist and wishes to promote a more surreal image to her persona. She is a well known idol for young females and older audiences and by releasing this video she wishes to promote that there is help for those struggling with the same problem. The basis of the song is around "toxic relationships" and so due to this theme I wanted to look into a bad/rebellious image to my artist illustrating the past damage to her background. The point of the video is to promote a more earthly persona and a more respected image.

 

Poison:

The song speaks of "toxic relationships" and the story of a girl who is drawn into peer pressure and becomes intoxicated from bad decisions. In addition to this looses her innocent identity and is struggling to overcome it after acknowledging it. The lyrics are conveying the struggle she had "I pick my poison and it's you" and relates to more of an addiction that she eventually wins towards the end of the song.

 

Video Concept - Narrative/performance based:

Throughout the video we will see Ivy live out one situation that could and has happened to her in the past where by she chooses the alcoholic drink instead or coffee to start the morning off. In this situation the viewer is un aware of what she does end up taking. But we see her getting into a car with her friends being pressured into drinking and being unsafe in the car and them almost crashing, to dropping her off and her tumbling all over the place distorted in her messy living room. To then seeing in the end that she over comes the addiction and makes the right choice and has the coffee instead resulting in a Hollywood ending. By seeing events that were all an illusion and acts as a metaphor for the artist's recovery as she knocks the alcoholic drink off the table.

 

Style:

 Muted colours and low key lighting to indicate and represent the state of intoxication. The lighting will change whist in outside locations and appear brighter but still have low key elements to represent the morbid intoxicated state. where as in performance parts it will represent ivy in high key lighting to reflect her recovery of this past addiction. To keep the audience aware that it could possibly be an illusion I will use hazy and distorted effects in the editing to make it appear more dream - like.
